Falling in love is a right not a criminal act

Thursday 27 May 2010

If we are to have what we are told is a "new" kind of government, then one of the coalition's priorities should be "human rights" in Pakistan.

I was disgusted to read that police in Peshawar broke up a ceremony between businessman Iqbal Khan and his partner Rani - a transgender woman (M Star May 26).

They are to be charged with attempted sodomy and could face a jail term of up to seven years. These people have done no wrong. All they are guilty of is having a loving relationship and getting on with their lives, and that it seems is a "crime."

Can I suggest that we stop invading other people's countries, stop decimating the meagre resources in the world's poorest areas, and divert all energies to bring real freedom to the people of Pakistan, by government pressure, to "live and let live" and dispel this antiquated thought process?
