No country has a right to dictate what people wear

Tuesday 20 July 2010

I am truly astonished by the outcry in Europe, in particular the French and Spanish governments' appalling idea that wearing a burqa is "degrading" to women.

I'll tell you what I think is degrading - the idea that men in power should decide the dress code of women (particularly women of faith), just because it doesn't "fit in" with their idea of French or Spanish society.

It shouldn't matter if there is a religious mandate or not about clothing or symbols - in a free society anybody, anywhere should be allowed to wear whatever they like and not be dictated to by the powers at be.

The bigger question of course, is where does this all end and which section of society is next on the hit list?
