Hitchens to stick his oar in at Glorious Goodwood

Friday 30 July 2010

Goodwood
Sea Lord is on fire at the moment and deserves this step up in grade in the 2.30 after two game victories in competitive handicaps.

He looks likely to run his race here and I couldn't put anyone off the progressive and hardy youngster, but I think he could very well set the race up for presser Critical Moment.

The Barry Hills charge beat a good yardstick in the form of Fair Trade at Newmarket in a similar race to this and could get first crack at the likely front-runner.

Field of Dreams was far from disgraced in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot and this drop in grade allied to the extra furlong should see the son of Oasis Dream play a leading role.

Connections of Midday will be praying for a repeat of last year's conditions for the Nassau Stakes (3.05) when the weather closed in and the ground eased considerably. She remains a class act on top of the ground as well.

French fillies Stacelita and Rosanara also have question marks about them as far as the going is concerned so there could be some value in opposing the market leaders and having a playing with the relatively fresh Antara to reverse Royal Ascot form with Strawberrydaiquri.

This step up to a mile and a quarter should suit this daughter of Platini down to the ground and she could surprise her more illustrious rivals.

The Stewards Cup at 3.40 is yet another mind-boggling renewal of this cavalry charge and with pace all over the track it really is hard to ascertain which side the winner will come from.

Drawn high, Enact is a strong fancy on the far side even though she would ideally prefer a bit of rain before the race.

At the weights she has an outstanding chance on her run behind Hawkeyethenoo at Newmarket on her only start this season back in May.

Hitchens, weighted lower than when 11th last year, is also a big player if the ground stays on the fast side along with last year's winner Genki.

On the low side I shall be having a saver on Sonny Red, who has been knocking on the door recently and is now rated only 1lb higher than his last win at Ascot.

He was drawn on the wrong side last year and the ground would have been against him, but on his win against Group Therapy last year he could well pop up for sprint king Dandy Nicholls.

Others drawn low worthy of consideration include stable mate Striking Spirit and Parisian Pyramid.
