Haye loses his shot at Klitschkos

Friday 30 July 2010

Boxing: David Haye's hopes of facing one of the Klitschko brothers before the end of the year are effectively over after the Ukrainian heavyweight champions lined up alternative opponents.

The Klitschkos revealed on Friday that IBF/WBO holder Wladimir will meet former victim Samuel Peter in a rematch, hot on the heels of Thursday's announcement that Shannon Briggs will take on WBC king Vitali.

Last year, Haye's negotiations over a fight with Vitali fell through and a back injury forced him out of a challenge to Wladimir.

Instead, he wrested the WBA title from Nikolay Valuev before setting his sights on a blockbuster showdown with one of the brothers in 2010.

But talks have again proved fruitless, with the Englishman and his manager-trainer Adam Booth unable to reach an agreement with the notoriously shrewd Klitschko camp.

One major sticking point is believed to be television rights in the siblings' adopted homeland of Germany.

Haye is still searching for a viable opponent for the second defence of his WBA title, with fellow Briton Audley Harrison and Pole Tomasz Adamek possibilities.
