Part-time work gives me sense of contributing

Wednesday 01 September 2010

As a sufferer from obsessive-compulsive disorder, I read with interest your article (M Star August 27) entitled In need of a right-minded policy.

In particular the fourth paragraph from the end of the article, which states "it would be a world in which part-time work is supported by government benefits," caught my attention.

In fact part-time work is already supported while in receipt of incapacity benefit under the permitted work rules, which state that a person can work for less than 16 hours per week on average and earn up to £93 gross.

I myself work part-time as a cleaner, which gives me a sense of contributing to the economy and of course the extra money is most helpful.

My real line of work was engineering, in which I served an apprenticeship, but I am not well enough to pursue this occupation at present.
