Now Curbishley's in Aston Villa frame

Thursday 02 September 2010

Football: Aston Villa fans tortured by the uncertainty following boss Martin O'Neill's departure have a new man to rant about - Alan Curbishley.

The former West Ham manager and ex-Villa player has not had a job in the game for two years, but was reported to have been interviewed by the Midlands club on Thursday.

If confirmed it would pit him against reserve team coach Kevin MacDonald, who applied for the job formally on Tuesday following a spell as caretaker boss.

Curbishley's tenure at West Ham came to an end after several players were sold without his permission.

The 52-year-old who made his name as manager by taking Charlton into the top flight successfully sued the owners for constructive dismissal.

Villa are set to speak to other potential candidates before revealing their choice for O'Neill's replacement.
