We should not miss out on the poetry of DH Lawrence

Tuesday 02 November 2010

It would be a pity if the article Morality & Class (M Star October 31) led younger readers to miss out on the brilliant poetry of DH Lawrence.

The innate class consciousness of How Beastly the Bourgeois Is or The Oxford Voice are complemented by the sheer humanity of We Are Transmitters among Lawrence's poems.

Lawrence clearly did not fully understand socialism in his day and age.

But with the Lady Chatterley trial over a book about "a bit of rough" the bourgeoisie as ever totally misunderstood the value of Lawrence in English literature and sociology.

We shouldn't do the same.
