Uefa monitors Israel

Friday 16 November 2012

Football: Uefa is monitoring the current situation in Israel ahead of a planned Europa League match next week and the European under-21 championships draw in 12 days’ time.

The draw ceremony for the 2013 under-21 championship is to be held on November 28 in Tel Aviv.

England under-21 manager Stuart Pearce is due to attend the event and the Football Association say they will be guided by Uefa, who are to make a further statement on Monday.

The most immediate decision will concern the match between Hapoel Kiryat Shmona and Athletic Bilbao, which is due to be played in Haifa on Thursday.

A Uefa spokesperson said: “Uefa is closely monitoring events in Israel and is in contact with the Israeli Football Association and both clubs.

“Further information shall be provided on Monday once the situation has been thoroughly assessed.”
