A monkey in a John Motson-style coat and nappy caused a sensation in a Toronto Ikea today.

The dapper macaque gathered a crowd while running around the car park before being cornered by animal control and later claimed by its owners, who had been shopping at the store when the animal escaped from its cage.

Police spokeswoman Wendy Drummond tweeted: "One of the stranger situations we have every dealt with! Lol."
