The Star is undoubtedly correct when it says that the Sunni minority "enjoyed the lion's share of political power while Saddam Hussein ran Iraq" (M Star January 4).
Having marched against Saddam when he was Britain's favourite I would be the last to seek to whitewash his regime.
But the fact is that other faiths were better protected under his rule than they are now.
When I visited Iraq at the height of its war with Iran I visited a Shi'ite mosque in Baghdad and was greeted in the lobby by a huge portrait of Ayatollah Khomeini, the enemy leader.
As a Christian, I have worshipped in the churches of various denominations there - churches which have since been firebombed by supporters of the US-backed government.
