Stuart Broad faces pain for rest of career

Friday 08 February 2013

Cricket: Stuart Broad returns to the England side tomorrow facing the prospect of being dogged by pain for the rest of his career unless doctors can identify a treatment for his rare heel injury.

Broad will lead the T20 team against New Zealand at Eden Park in the first international fixture of this tour after his involvement in the India series was cut short.

He said he was resigned to bowling through the pain after England's medics have drawn a blank in finding a cure for the lacerated fat-pad at the bottom of his foot.

"If I did pretty much anything else in the world but bowl seam it would be fine," said Broad.

"It's going to be a long-term thing. It's not going to go away overnight, it's something I just need to manage."

England's main selection dilemma is which bowler to use out of Steven Finn, Chris Woakes and Jade Dernbach.

New Zealand are boosted by the return of star batsman Ross Taylor from a break after his sacking as captain.
