Davies wins silver in 10km marathon swim
Beijing 2008: BRITAIN'S David Davies missed out on an Olympic gold medal in men's 10km swin yesterday despite a battling display at Shunyi.
The 23-year-old led for most of the race, but he was eventually edged out by a mere 1.5 seconds by Holland's Maarten van der Weijden, who finished in a time of 51 minutes 51.6 seconds.
Germany's Thomas Lurz won bronze, a further 0.5 seconds back.
"It's going to take a while for it to sink in," said Welshman Davies, who also won a bronze in the 1500m in Athens four years ago.
"But it's a proud moment for me."
Britain have now won three open-water medals after Keri-Anne Payne and Cassie Patten won silver and bronze respectively in Wednesday's women's race.
