NGO condemns 'discriminatory' Dutch language test
HUMAN Rights Watch said on Thursday that a Dutch policy of forcing some would-be immigrants to pass a language test before seeking a visa is discriminatory.
The group said that the test targets families from developing nations, in particular Turkey and Morocco, while citizens of developed nations are exempt.
Spokeswoman Holly Cartner called the test "discriminatory because it explicitly applies only to relatives from predominantly non-Western countries."
"These measures keep families apart and appear to be aimed at keeping certain kinds of people out of the Netherlands."
