Band's tour of trouble
MEET Scottish band The Ossians. Connor is their drug-addled, immature thieving frontman.
Also in the band is his twin sister Kate, girlfriend Hannah and best friend Danny.
Danny is sleeping with Kate, but they have not told the others.
Emotionally, it's Fleetwood Mac. Musically, it's cutting-edge indie pop.
Having released three EPs, they are about to embark on a tour of the outer regions of Scotland which will cumulate in a showcase gig in Glasgow to be followed by a bidding war from the record companies. Well, that's Plan A. Needless to say, there is no Plan B.
Unfortunately, Connor is deeply in hock to a local drug baron and agrees to courier "packages" during the tour in order to clear his debt. He does not bother informing his fellow band members about this side deal.
Johnstone has played in a band and it shows in his writing about the drudgery of touring as well as the group's dynamics and drug habits.
The story about how the tour and the band inevitably disintegrate is done in an insightful way that will hold you, whatever your musical preferences or nationality.
