A Secret (15)
ADAPTED from Philippe Grimbert's fact-based novel A Secret, Claude Miller's film version is a powerful and intriguing drama. It centres on the exploration of a dark family secret.
On his 15th birthday, Francois learns from a friend of the family an overwhelming truth about his family and their life under the nazis.
One of the interesting things about this film is that all the present-day action is portrayed in black and white, while the past is in vibrant colour.
The cast give solid performances, especially Cecile de France, who is stunning and mesmerising as Francois's mother Tania, a swimming champion.
A fascinating film directed with warmth, style and panache.
