Doomsday (18)
GREAT RIDE BUT WITH NO DEPTH: Doomsday (18).
MAD Max meets Braveheart at a cannibal carnival before metamorphosing into a car advert in Neil Marshall's third feature Doomsday.
With gore galore and a gang of goulish psycho killers, it features the gorgeous Rhona Mitra as an all-action leader of a crack military unit sent to Scotland to discover the cure for a new plague. The reason it's beyond Hadrian's Wall is because that's where the virus began and supposedly ended when the British government decided to cut its losses and let our Pictish cousins perish.
Naturally, it has its fair share of ham, with Bob Hoskins as a security chief, Craig Conway as the cannibal leader and Malcolm McDowell as a scientist-cum-madman in a medieval castle.
The final chase through the Highlands, accompanied by Frankie Goes To Hollywood singing Two Tribes, couldn't be more apposite. Fantastic fun.
