The Wackness (15)

(Thursday 28 August 2008)
Directed by Jonathan Levine

THIS is a coming-of-age story with a wacky twist.

Set in the summer of 1994, the year that Kurt Cobain died, people used pagers instead of mobiles and hip hop ruled, it recounts three months in the life of young New York drugs dealer Luke (Josh Peck) as he waits to go to college.

What make this movie worth watching are the riveting performances by Sir Ben Kingsley and Peck. They're a great double act.

Kingsley plays Peck's psychiatrist Dr Squires, whom Peck pays off in drugs and becomes friends with.

Squires advises Luke to get laid, until he discovers that his patient has a crush on his stepdaughter.

A hugely entertaining film with a great soundtrack to boot.
