Good start
THE coffee table brigade hijacked trip-hop just as it was being reinvigorated with the addition of acoustic instrumentation.
It's a direction that Bristol quintet Jump Ship seem belatedly to want to continue as they combine the electronic beats of Lamb circa What Sound with the acousto-funk of Ani DiFranco's Wishing Our Lives Away.
At their strongest when employing off-kilter rhythms and jazz-rock textures, they regrettably choose to align themselves closer to the cosiness of Kate Walsh, with whom Louise Coady shares an equally strong voice, on the likes of Home Soon.
As a debut album, however, it augurs well for future voyages.
