ALBUM: The Ting Tings, We Started Nothing
(Columbia)

ONE of the year's most eagerly anticipated debuts, We Started Nothing is the culmination of an intense period of creativity for The Ting Tings.

The 40-minute album, which includes the Manchester duo's three singles to date, welds garage rock principles onto 1980s indie disco and riot grrrl attitude with sweetshop charm.

Their referencing of acts such as Le Tigre and Blondie is shamelessly blatant but, as with Elastica, they've turned this neo-plagiarism to their advantage.

This ensures that, even with a couple of fillers, the release is a sugar-coated tonic that's guaranteed to fill the dance floor.
