ALBUM: Paris Motel - 071

TO pay the bills, Amy May is a classical musician.

However, she also has a rather interesting side project called Paris Motel.

071 is the second Paris Motel release and consists of five tracks.

The band's musical signature is becoming clearer with slightly quirky songs dealing with unusual subjects coupled with great orchestration and multilayered vocals.

Title track 071 is a piece of skilled writing, which may appear superficial at first listen, but has clever and humorous lyrics with beautiful orchestration.

On is about a relationship coming to an end and, with lines like "tried to make an argument, it ended up a fight," it shows an insight that can only come from being rather too close to a collapsing relationship.

Mr Splitfoot is downright eerie. Mike and Joe Smith lay down a backbeat of drums and bass over which there is some disturbing singing from May.

Whoever the song is based on, they clearly annoyed her and this is payback time.

In the doubtful scenario that Paris Motel does not succeed, May is likely to be spoilt for choice of musical careers, but my money is still on success via Paris Motel.
