Champions League: THE Russian government urged English fans on Thursday to behave "respectfully" at next week's final between Manchester United and Chelsea in Moscow.

Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko said that the authorities would look to ensure that there were no attacks on English fans in revenge for the stabbing of a Russian fan at Wednesday night's UEFA Cup final in Manchester.

Speaking to Chelsea and United supporters in a video conference, Mutko urged the fans of the losing side not to react violently.

He said that the police and military on duty in the city would control the event in a "proper and calm way, insisting: "We will make sure there will be no revenge attacks or anything like that. Lots of things happen around football, but we cannot blame football for them."

Drinking will be banned on the streets of the city and there will be no big screens for fans to watch the match on.

"I think, in Manchester, I saw maybe 100,000 Scots fans and I do not want to see the same picture in Moscow," said Mutko.

He went on: "We will have everything different here and, of course, the fans of the losing team are going to be disappointed.

"We would like to call on the fans to appreciate that, in football, there is always a winner and a loser."
