HOUSEMAN: Lush Lushes to flutter in the Musidora

(Tuesday 13 May 2008)

LUSH LASHES can turn in a show-stopping performance on the first day of York's big May meeting.

Jim Bolger's filly lines up in a white-hot renewal of the 2.40 Tattersalls Musidora Stakes, in which a clutch of Oaks fancies will be out to test their Classic-winning credentials.

Despite the brute strength of the competition, Lush Lashes is still taken to prove a cut above in this educative Group Three.

Confidence is first derived from the Galileo filly's triumph in last September's Goffs Fillies Million, in which she made a lot of animals, including recent Leopardstown scorer Carribean Sunset, look rather one-paced.

Although she could not kick on from that first-time success when sent back to the Curragh, the heavy ground that day unquestionably proved her undoing.

Lush Lashes was an entirely different proposition in the 1000 Guineas, though, in which she patently failed to handle the Dip but still got to within two lengths of Natagora.

That is rock-solid form by anyone's standards and it should have her ripe for the Musidora.
