Hull rolled over by Yorkshire rivals
WITH the midday kickoff failing to dampen the enthusiasm of both sets of fans, yesterday's Yorkshire derby was dominated by the home side.
Hull's 3,000 travelling fans were disappointed to see their team go 1-0 down on seven minutes, when following a cross from Andrew Holdsworth, the Huddersfield centre forward Pawel Abbott hammered a right foot shot past Boaz Myhill into the roof of the net from 15 yards.
And on 18 minutes Rob Edwards hit a delightful left foot shot from the edge of the penalty area past Myhill to double the advantage.
Skipper Ian Ashby was then shown the yellow card, joining his Huddersfiled counterpart Efe Sodje in the referee's book.
Hull's only chance of the half came on 32 minutes, when Junior Lewis managed to flick back towards goal a Danny Allsop shot and, amazingly, Sodje headed it down into the ground and over the bar.
Hull started the second period brightly and substitute Jason Price hit the post on 51 minutes. Ten minutes later Hull should again have reduced the deficit, when Mark Joseph was left unmarked, but headed over from six yards.
On 69 mins a dreadful Leon Cort pass was seized on by Andy Booth. He fed Junior Mendes on the right who advanced before slipping the ball behind the Hull defence into Brandon's path, who easily beat Myhill to extend the lead.
On 77 minutes Allsop's header was handled by Steve Yates in the box, but his penalty was well saved by Ian Gray in the Huddersfield goal and minutes later made another excellent save to deny Cort.
Then, with time running out, Andy Booth chested down a John Worthington cross and, from the edge of the box, curled a right foot shot past Myhill to complete the scoring.
Mendes could have made it Five in the dying seconds, but, in the end, the 10,000 Huddersfield fans cheered their heros from the pitch following their best performance of the season.
