Rangers 3-1 Dundee Utd
Scottish Premier League: RANGERS moved to within a point of leaders Celtic on Saturday, thanks to a Nacho Novo brace.
However, the game was full of controversy with Dundee feeling that several key decisions went against them and the fifth-placed club have decided to lodge an official complaint about referee Mike McCurry's handling of the match.
Nacho Novo scored for Rangers in the seventh minute when he headed home Kevin Thomson's free kick.
The Spaniard doubled Rangers' lead soon after with a cracking volley.
Then, United had a goal incorrectly disallowed for offside and they were denied a penalty before Mark de Vries pulled a goal back. Rangers striker Jean-Claude Darcheville later sealed the win.
Unsurprisingly, United boss Craig Levein was furious after the match.
"We had a blatant penalty and he bottled it," Levein said.
"If it's not a level playing field and if we don't get the decisions, blatant, important decisions then what is the point of turning up?"
The match was no dead rubber for United, as they are still hopeful of finishing third in the SPL and claiming a UEFA Cup place for next season.
"I thought Mike McCurry had the balls to stand up and give these decisions, but he bottled it," Levein said.
"Not only is it a penalty kick but it's a sending off for Davie Weir. But he didn't want to do it because this game meant so much to Rangers."
He added: "Anybody who is of a fair mind watching that today would see that we had no chance of winning that.
"We get a perfectly good goal chalked off and a blatant penalty, with not even a decision to make, and it should've been a sending off."
While Levein's reaction is not without justification, the Scottish FA will almost certainly take a dim view of his comments, leaving disciplinary action a distinct possibility.
However, United chief executive Stephen Thompson has pledged to back his manager "all the way."
