GEROLSTEINER's Stefan Schumacher won stage four of the Tour de France on Tuesday, taking the yellow jersey in the process.
The German crossed the line in Cholet, clocking 35 minutes and 44 seconds, which was 18 seconds quicker than Team Columbia's Kim Kirchen and Britain's national champion David Millar.
Overall, Luxembourg's Kirchen is second, while Millar jumped to third, 12 seconds behind Schumacher.
Surprisingly, overnight leader and home favourite Romain Feillu finished well down the field. Wednesday's fifth stage is a flat 232km ride from Cholet to Chateauroux.
