Muhammad Ali article was a knockout

Tuesday 24 January 2012

Thanks you for your comment on Muhammad Ali's 70th birthday (M Star January 16) and your coverage of boxing in general.

I thought the article on his anti-war stance brought attention to an important side of sport that rarely receives the praise due.

Ali's statement is a part of a legacy that began long before him and paved the way for other iconic moments, such as when Tommie Smith raised his fist at the 1968 Olympics.

However I wish the article had included the much stronger quote from Ali: "No Vietcong ever called me nigger!"
