Hundreds of thousands of supporters of Syria's embattled government took to the streets in force on Thursday in opposition to an Arab League proposal for President Bashar al-Assad to resign.

Syrian troops killed 30 people in Homs on Thursday in a "terrifying massacre," according to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Director Rami Abdul-Rahman called for an independent investigation of the alleged killings.
