An apology will mean nothing without a resignation

Monday 13 September 2004

SO Health Secretary John Reid believes that Tony Blair should not apologise over the war on Iraq, because he did nothing wrong.

Is it not wrong to lie to Parliament and the people and then send British troops to their deaths on the basis of such lies?

Is it not wrong to bomb and kill thousands of innocent Iraqis?

Obviously not in Mr Blair's distorted view of the world. I agree with Mr Reid, however, that it would be wrong for the Prime Minister to make a false apology to appease those who opposed war, because that is all it would be.

Any apology Mr Blair would make is meaningless, unless followed by resignation.
