Grinderman 2

Grinderman 2

Remix albums never feel like a proper release.

There's no new material and all too often DJs' remix tracks are coupled with singer-songwriters whose contributions seem so random you'd be forgiven for thinking that the original artist had an open-door policy allowing anyone to take part so long as they wanted to.

This remix album is one for Nick Cave's more pretentious fans, pretentious enough though they be already.

But there are plenty of moments to enjoy from electronic collective Unkle and former Bad Seeds member Barry Adamson and a particular highlight is Andrew Weatherhall's version of Heathen Child, which is memorably reworked as a minimal slice of electronic moodiness.

Even so, there's nothing about RMX overall that warrants it taking up any valuable space on your record shelf.

You'd be better off saving it for the next real Grinderman release.
