NASUWT treasurer Brian Cookson launched a sustained attack on the government over its vicious policies against the public sector and teachers.
Each point he made was echoed in more detail by delegate after delegate at the annual conference in Birmingham and they left Education Secretary Michael Gove in no doubt about their negative views of him.
Mr Cookson said: "The ripples from Westminster are being felt across the whole of the UK, and through financial starvation, the removal of the rights of workers and pay freezes and reductions together with increased pension costs those ripples are turning into the waves of a destructive tsunami."
A government guided by common sense would respond to news that publicly owned Royal Mail has increased profits to £403 million by scrapping plans to flog off the service.
