Being Elmo (PG)

Directed by Constance Marks
Thursday 26 April 2012

US puppeteer Kevin Clash grew up in 1970s Baltimore with a unique dream and this documentary traces how he realised it.

Starting to make puppets from the age of 10, Cash began performing to neighbourhood children but was soon working on local TV and ended up with the Jim Henson team, creators of Sesame Street.

His breakthrough was to create Elmo, one of the most popular and recognised puppets globally and, using archive footage and interviews, director Constance Marks manages to celebrate Clash's creation and his world of puppets.

Fans will enjoy this and it's a good introduction for the uninitiated to this magical realm.
