Star needs to take a long, hard look at Labour Party

EmailEven though the editorial policy of the Morning Star is to campaign for a socialist Britain through the election of a left Labour government, in line with the Communist Party of Britain's programme Britain's Road To Socialism, comrades at the paper are big enough to publish letters from a variety of socialist standpoints.
I am in broad agreement with the contributions from Rob Rooney and Geoff Coleman (M Star April 12), both of whose letters are opposed to the failed Labour project.
It is high time the big trade unions - Unite and Unison in particular - reconsidered bankrolling the Labour Party.
The fact is that Labour, since it was formed in 1906, has never been a socialist party. It was established to represent working-class interests in Parliament.
But every time it gets into power it turns its back on the workers and ends up supporting the capitalist system.
Would it be possible for the Morning Star to organise a broad-based national conference, outside London, to critically evaluate the political records of previous Labour governments, to examine the current policies of Labour in opposition and to seek socialist alternatives?
