The English Defence League, an alliance of racists and fascists, intends to stage a demonstration in Bolton on Saturday March 20.
We are writing to call upon all your readers to come to Bolton on March 20 and take part in a national demonstration against fascism and racism. We are asking people from every part of the country to book transport to Bolton to help protesters get here.
The overwhelming reaction of Bolton's community is one of disgust and distaste at the idea that these thugs, posing as patriots, should come anywhere near this multicultural and working-class town.
Those that live and work here have enough problems with poverty, unemployment and insecurity without putting up with people whose only aim is to divide us and divert anger towards our friends and neighbours whose only "crime" is their cultural difference.
These people must be stopped. But Bolton cannot do this on our own. The EDL mobilises nationally. We must do the same to put a stop to them. We are many - they are few.
We will not allow any repeat of the horrific EDL behaviour in Stoke-on-Trent last month, when they went on the rampage against Asians. We will not be bullied out of our town centre by latter-day storm troopers.
We raise our call to everyone everywhere: bring yourselves, your union and community banners, your workmates, neighbours and families to stand with us. Every anti-fascist who can, should be with us on March 20.
All out for Bolton!
