Left Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn teamed up with Lib Dem MP Bob Russell in the Commons today to congratulate the Co-operative Group for its ban on Israeli products, writes Roger Bagley.

The pair put down an early day motion (EDM) praising the Co-op for its decision to ban all Israeli goods from the occupied Palestinian West Bank, and also boycotting goods from Israeli companies.

Firms covered by the boycott include Arava Export Growers, Agrexco, Adafresh and Mehadrin.

Islington North MP Mr Corbyn (above) and Colchester MP Mr Russell called on all other supermarket chains and suppliers to follow the "excellent lead of the Co-operative Group."

Their EDM recalls that it was such boycott policies which helped end apartheid in South Africa.

It further urges the British government to push for all EU member states to implement similar boycott measures against Israel and axe its special trading status with the EU.
