Dozens of Greek municipal workers clashed with police today after breaking into a conference centre to tell a German minister to get lost.

They also shoved and threw coffee at German consul Wolfgang Hoelsche-Obermaier as he arrived at a summit of Greek and German mayors in Thessaloniki.

They then broke into the conference centre where German Deputy Labour minister Hans-Joachim Fuchtel was protected by riot police.

German Left party MP told the demonstrators: "It is not you who should pay the price for this crisis but the rich."

Riot police chased the protesters from building to building through the conference centre.
