PRIVATE sector union amicus announced yesterday that it has merged with print union GPMU.

The measure follows amicus's recent merger with banking and finance union UNIFI. With over 1.2 million members, it is now the largest private-sector union.

Amicus general secretary Derek Simpson said: "We are delighted to welcome our colleagues from the GPMU to amicus.

"Amicus is already a major force in the workplace, but, by increasing our membership and diversity by merger with GPMU, we will enhance its political and industrial influence." he argued.
