Four police killed by Chechen suidice bomber

Fake officer blows himself up at Kadyrov's birthday party

FOUR police officers were killed in Grozny today when a suicide bomber blew himself up at Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s birthday party.

At least three others were injured in the blast.

Mr Kadyrov told journalists at the scene that the suicide bomber was wearing a police uniform and presented police identification when he tried to go through metal detectors set up outside a concert hall in Grozny.

When police moved to stop him, he detonated the explosives, Mr Kadyrov said.

A separatist insurgency continues to simmer in Chechnya, which saw two wars in the 1990s.
