EDINBURGH EXHIBITION
Art of Glass
National Museum of Scotland
Chambers Street
April 6 – September 16

Art of Glass highlights the work of contemporary artists such as the Filipino-American Jeffrey Sarmiento, whose work draws on personal narratives, and renowned English sculptor Emma Woffenden, whose evocative pieces have a sense of the surreal.

Edinburgh-based Geoffrey Mann has created The Leith Pattern, which explores the myth that the archetypal wine bottle was designed and produced by the Leith Glassworks.

Scottish artist Karlyn Sutherland's work is influenced by the environment and quality of light found in the far-north of Scotland, while Pinkie Maclure's Beauty Tricks takes issue with the human and environmental impact of the beauty industry and the pressure women sometimes place on themselves and their daughters.

H HALIFAX/TOURING THEATRE
Get Well Soon
Square Chapel Arts Centre
Square Road
April 21

The aim of this new show from the excellent Mikron Theatre is to “make a surgical strike on the state of our NHS,” 70 years after its founding.

Written by Ged Cooper, it's set in St Monica's hospital, where all is not well. They’re on life support as they face bugs, bed-blockers and a battle to save A and E. Can Nye Bevan's dream of free healthcare for all survive? is this show's question and it seeks the answer through tunes, transfusions and titters. Tours nationally after this premiere in Halifax.

Upper Ground, SE1
March 10 – 14 April 14

The Great Wave by Francis Turnly is set on a Japanese beach, where teenage sisters Hanako and Reiko are caught up in a storm.

Reiko survives while Hanako is lost to the sea. Their mother, however, can’t shake the feeling her missing daughter is still alive, and family tragedy soon takes on a global political dimension.

Set in Japan and North Korea, Francis Turnly’s “epic” new thriller is directed by Indhu Rubasingham in this co-production with the Tricycle Theatre.
