Dave Ward re-elected as CWU general secretary

DAVE WARD was re-elected unopposed as the leader of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) today.

Mr Ward, who has been leading the union since 2015, says that he is “motivated and proud” to continue in the role, after no opponent was nominated.

HIs re-election comes as the union begins a second national ballot for strike action at Royal Mail.

Mr Ward said: “Being re-elected with such tremendous support across the whole union is recognition of what we have achieved and a powerful mandate for the direction we have set.

“This is all about harnessing the overall strengths of the union to fight even harder to protect and enhance our members’ jobs, terms and conditions.

“It also means forging a new model of collectivism that can reassert trade-union values across society and shape the future world of work in a beneficial way to all workers.

“I am excited, motivated and proud to lead this agenda.”
