Actor Michael Sheen respects UCU picket line

HIGHER education strikers in Cardiff stopped an international film star from crossing their picket line today.

Actor Michael Sheen was scheduled to visit the city centre Atrium campus at the University of South Wales on filming business when he stopped to talk to the picket line.

The film, television star and political activist spoke to the strikers and refused to cross their picket line in solidarity with the union.

Branch chairman Terry Driscoll said: “It’s not every day you encounter a celebrity on the picket line but this was a tremendous act of solidarity by a highly respected member of the Welsh community.

“Refusing to cross our picket gave a major boost to the morale of striking workers not just at the university, but to our members in Wales and the UK.”

The UCU, representing academic and professional staff in higher education, is taking strike action at universities across the UK.
