Birmingham CLP add to calls for Labour to adopt a Zero Covid strategy

MEMBERS of Birmingham Hall Green CLP have added their voice to the calls for the Labour leadership to change course and adopt a “zero-Covid” strategy.

The resolution, submitted by the Unite WM/6030 branch during a meeting on Thursday, received overwhelming support.

Several members expressed their outrage at the fact that Britain has the highest death rate in the world.

A strong feeling that the obvious failure of the government’s strategy should result in a complete change of course by the Labour leadership was also expressed.

Members supporting the successful motion pointed out that it was clear that we could not live safely with the virus, and that the failure to eradicate it had produced an unprecedented economic crisis.

A member told the Morning Star: “The strong support for this motion reflects the growing opposition to Labour’s support for the government on this issue.

“We cannot continue with a policy that treats the death of so many of our people as inevitable. The party must change course and learn from those countries which have protected their people.”
