ENVIRONMENTALISTS in Wales demanded the Welsh government stop unlawful mining at Ffos-y-Fran today.

Friends of the Earth Cymru has written to climate change minister Julie James to use government powers to stop unlawful coaling at the opencast mine on the outskirts of Merthyr Tydfil.

The campaign group wrote to the Welsh government and Merthyr Council, the planning authority, requesting a stop notice be issued without delay.
