JOHN McDONNELL will be revealing seven songs and three books that have inspired him at an online event this evening.
The former shadow chancellor will be a guest on Labour Grassroots’ show Castaway, which is in a similar form to BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs.
Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was the first to appear on the show and speak about his favourite books and music in November.
Host and organiser Crispin Flintoff plans to make the show a series.
He told the Morning Star: “Hearing the cultural influences of leading socialists like Jeremy and John, and what these songs and books signified for them, is a great form of political education.
“The plan is to make the most of lockdown by championing inspiring and revolutionary art with regular Castaway shows.”
The hour-long event starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are available at labourgrassroots.com/event/castaway-with-john-mcdonnell.
