Over 1,000 activists to call on Labour to fight for a socialist Budget

MORE than 1,000 activists have already registered for a major pre-Budget event looking at how Labour must fight back against the Tories and for a socialist economic policy.

The event is organised by the Labour Assembly Against Austerity (LAAA) and will take place on Monday.

Labour MP Apsana Begum said: “A decade of austerity has devastated our country.

“Rather than return to ‘big business as usual’ we need a people’s Budget to invest in our future, creating jobs with a People’s Green New Deal. Join myself, John McDonnell and others for this vital event.”

Labour MP Richard Burgon added: “We must ensure this crisis isn’t paid for on the backs of the working class.

“And we have to set the agenda for a post-Covid economy that serves the many, not the few.”

A LAAA spokesperson said: “The Tories are using this crisis to restructure the economy in the interests of the 1 per cent. Labour needs to both fight the Tories and argue for a transformative alternative.”
