Scotrail gateline staff to strike for workplace justice

SCOTRAIL gateline staff will take industrial action as part of a company-wide fight for workplace justice, rail union RMT announced today.

The workers will take action short of a strike as other Abellio Scotrail workers, including conductors, ticket examiners and cleaners, continue separate long-running disputes.

Gateline staff are taking a stand over unfair pay for rest-day working, the RMT said.

They will refuse to take overtime, higher grade duty or rest-day work from August 11, with a restriction on Sunday working also about to be put in place.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said: “Their dispute runs alongside those of other grades at the company … in what are now some of Britain’s longest-running industrial disputes.”

He called on Transport Scotland, the Scottish government and Abellio to sit down and “negotiate a fair and just settlement for all grades.”

Scotrail head of customer operations Phil Campbell said the rejection of strike action was greatly appreciated.

He claimed that the members’ vote against a strike showed that RMT bosses are becoming increasingly out of sync with views of their own members.
