Welsh Deputy Transport Minister sets out measures to ease pressures following Menai Bridge closure

WELSH Deputy Transport Minister Lee Waters set out a package of support measures today to help ease the transport pressures following the Menai Bridge closure.

The suspension bridge connects the Isle of Anglesey to the Welsh mainland and was closed on October 31 after engineers raised safety concerns during routine maintenance checks.

The closure means the only access to the island is via the Britannia bridge, which is sometimes closed to traffic in high winds.

The new support package includes free parking, traffic flow solutions, access to active travel routes and additional bus stops to support people affected by the closure.

The deputy minister also met with representatives from Gwynedd and Anglesey councils to discuss the maintenance works, which are expected to be completed in early 2023.

Mr Waters said: “We understand people’s frustrations and the inconvenience and disruption caused to the local community.

“We have been working closely with UK Highways A55 Ltd and local authorities to introduce these measures to help alleviate people’s concerns and ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.”
