BT boss condemned for raking in £2.3 million while slashing jobs

FAT-CAT BT boss Gavin Patterson faced fury today following revelations that he pocketed an eye-watering £2.3 million while slashing thousands of jobs.

Communication Workers Union’s Andy Kerr, who is deputy general secretary for the telecoms and financial services division, said it was shocking that the BT chief executive pocketed as much money in just two days as many CWU members at the company get paid over a whole year.

He said: “At a time when BT are cutting back on staff as part of a £1.5 billion cost saving plan, to learn this morning that Gavin Patterson’s pay package was £2.3m last year is clearly a kick in the teeth for our hard-working members.

“This unfair pay gap between senior executives and ordinary workers is a continuing problem and a political solution needs to be found to ensure we create an economy that works for everyone.”
