Women’s Netball Cobden knows World Cup is ‘all to play for’

COMMONWEALTH Games champion Beth Cobden said today that England’s rivals Australia will be seeking revenge at next summer’s World Cup in Liverpool.

Cobden was in Tracey Neville’s team who beat Australia to Commonwealth gold in April on the Gold Coast.

The 25-year-old will hope to return from a knee injury to help the Roses’ bid to follow-up their success on home soil.

“It’s going to be a massive challenge to back up what we’ve done, but it’s something we believe we can do,” Cobden said.

“It’s the next step, to see if we can keep the success going.

“It’s all to play for. They’ll be gunning for it, but so are we. Bring it on.”

England have been drawn to play Uganda, Scotland and Samoa in Group D at the July 2019 World Cup in Liverpool.

They play Australia tomorrow in the Quad Series in Newcastle, New South Wales. England thrashed New Zealand last Saturday, showing their Commonwealth-winning form.

Cobden has not watched back the narrow 52-51 Gold Coast final victory.

She added: “I haven’t got round to watch it yet. It’s nice to leave it untouched and just leave it as a good memory.

“I’ve seen the end couple of minutes hundreds of times.”

She has agreed a move to join Adelaide Thunderbirds in Super Netball in 2019, after two years with Loughborough Lightning.

The wing defence is focused on getting fit from a left anterior cruciate knee ligament injury, hoping to return next March to put herself in contention for selection for the home World Cup.

She hopes playing in the fully professional league will help her bid.

“I’m hoping it will improve my game. Especially after this injury, I’m hoping that going over there will help me get up to speed quickly,” she added.
