Dozens gather at noisy protest outside the Broadstairs office of South Thanet MP Craig Mackinlay over cost of living

DOZENS of people gathered outside Tory MP Craig Mackinlay’s constituency office in Broadstairs yesterday to protest at his lack of interest in the cost-of-living crisis or climate change.

A spokesperson for Thanet Left, which called the demonstration, said: “Climate-change catastrophe and the rising cost of living pose a terrible threat to us here, yet we have an MP who seems utterly blind to both of them.”

The protesters raised warnings that the soaring cost of living is likely to result in deaths in Mr Mackinlay’s South Thanet consituency.

“Thanet is one of the most deprived areas in the country,” the spokesperson said.

“The people here are suffering as it is, but the cost-of-living crisis, with rocketing food prices and energy prices, is going to push many of them over the edge.

“Yet Mackinlay is totally silent on the issue.

“[And] incredibly Mackinlay has gone on the record against green taxes and has links to climate change deniers.

“Doesn’t he care about what happens to his constituents?

“We must send a message to his government that we need action now. This is literally a matter of life or death.”
