Elon Musk's tweets reportedly being probed by government's counter-terrorism unit

ELON MUSK'S tweets are reportedly being probed by the government’s counter-terrorism unit amid growing fears over the risk of far-right violence returning to Britain.

The tech billionaire’s social media accounts are among those with large followings under increased monitoring by the unit, which sits within the Home Office’s Homeland Security Group, according to the Mirror.

Mr Musk, a key aide to US President-elect Donald Trump, has attacked the government in recent weeks after insulting Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips for rejecting a request for a national inquiry into grooming gangs in Oldham, saying it should be led by the council.

She has admitted Mr Musk’s personal attacks on his social media site X were “endangering” her after he called her a “rape genocide apologist” who should be jailed.

Ms Phillips, who worked in women’s refuges before becoming an MP, has reportedly had close protection officers assigned to her and been advised not to go out in public alone following the increased threats to her safety.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on Monday hit out at “those who are spreading lies and misinformation” and said the billionaire had “crossed a line” after his abuse led to Ms Phillips receiving serious threats.

Mr Musk has also reportedly been looking at ways to replace Sir Keir as prime minister.

The counterterrorism unit probing Mr Musk’s tweets is said to have been involved in content analysis and wider risk assessment.

Its “mission is to reduce national security risks to the UK’s people, prosperity and freedoms,” according to the official government website.

“It focuses on the highest harm risks to the homeland, whether from terrorists, state actors, or cyber and economic criminals,” it adds.
